MAGA Supporters Losing Patience with Politicians Who Provide Cover for a Convicted Child Sex Trafficker
Washington, D.C. — Today, the House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on Rep. Thomas Massie’s and Rep. Ro Khanna’s Epstein Files Transparency Act, with some even suggesting a unanimous vote in favor of the bill. In the span of a week, Speaker Mike Johnson, the House Republican Caucus, and President Donald Trump went from working to delay or defeat the bill to supporting it—in part because MAGA supporters were starting to turn on them.
From the chairman of Georgia’s Republican Party refusing to denounce Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to Alex Jones saying, “Trumps threat to primary MTG is very destructive to the prospects of MAGA in the future,” MAGA supporters have finally had enough. Demand Progress has collected examples of MAGA supporters denouncing Trump in recent days.
Demand Progress has also been working to debunk false attacks on the Massie-Khanna bill and is leading a campaign that so far has driven Americans to send over 600,000 contacts to Congress to demand the full release of the Epstein files.
The following is a statement from Demand Progress Senior Policy Advisor Cavan Kharrazian:
“The days of MAGA supporters giving a free pass to the White House are over. We’re in a new political world where Trump and congressional Republicans now realize that voters will punish them for providing cover for a convicted sex trafficker of minors. The overwhelming response to Demand Progress’s Epstein campaign shows us that releasing the files is something that the American people care about deeply. House and Senate Republicans and President Trump must accept this new reality and release the files without delay and without any unnecessary redactions. If not, they can join Larry Summers and Prince Andrew as friends of Jeffrey Epstein.”
