IRONY ALERT: NEW POLL SHOWS NEW YORKERS DON’T CARE WHAT JEFFRIES THINKS

New Poll Shows NY-10 Dems Almost 4x More Likely to Support Candidate Endorsed by Mamdani than Jeffries

Washington, D.C. — As Rep. Hakeem Jeffries disparages Sen. Chris Van Hollen for calling out his failure to endorse Zohran Mamdani, a new poll finds that Democratic voters in a neighboring congressional district were overwhelmingly “more” or “much more” likely to support a candidate who was endorsed by a progressive like Zohran Mamdani (+37) than an establishment figure like Jeffries (+10).

The Demand Progress Action poll was conducted by Data for Progress from Sept 2-8, 2025. It surveyed 553 likely Democratic primary voters in NY-10 and has a margin of error of four points. It tested how the endorsement by any of a number of political figures would impact the vote of voters in NY-10. Voters were overwhelmingly “more” or “much more” likely to support a candidate who was endorsed by progressives like Elizabeth Warren (+57), Bernie Sanders (+54), Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (+54) and Zohran Mamdani (+37). Voters were, at best, only marginally more likely to support a candidate who was endorsed by establishment figures like Hakeem Jeffries (+10), Kirsten Gillibrand (+7) or Chuck Schumer (+4).

Additionally, the poll found that Rep. Dan Goldman (Democrat, NY-10) is vulnerable to a primary challenge — and this vulnerability grows as voters learn more about his refusal to endorse Mamdani, as well as his record on the Gaza war, his support from AIPAC and his support for Benjamin Netanyahu. The poll also found that among likely Democratic voters in the district, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) has a net negative favorability of 40%. Conversely, Jewish Voice for Peace has a +30 favorability.

The following is a statement from Demand Progress Action Communications Director Eric Naing:

“Rep. Jeffries is dangerously misreading the balance of power here. In a congressional district that neighbors his own, Zohran Mamdani’s endorsement is nearly four times as powerful as Jeffries’s own endorsement. The message from Democrats is clear: they are tired of the establishment’s policies and rhetoric that serve interests like AIPAC and billionaire donors. Rather, they want progressive leaders who actually govern with the interests of everyday people in mind.”
