House Fails to Block Trump’s Disastrous War in Iran

Washington, D.C. — On Wednesday, the House voted to block a bipartisan war powers resolution from Reps. Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY). Republican Reps. Warren Davidson and Massie voted in favor of the resolution. Democratic Reps. Golden, Landsman, Cuellar and Vargas voted against the resolution—which failed 219-212. The Trump administration is reportedly considering an emergency request for $50 billion to fund the war, which is now expected to last through September. Demand Progress is leading a campaign urging Americans to ask their representatives to support the war powers resolutions.

The following is a statement from Demand Progress Senior Policy Advisor Cavan Kharrazian:

“It’s profoundly disappointing that the House failed to block Trump’s disastrous, unpopular war in Iran. Everyone who opposed the resolution owns this war—along with the casualties, rising gas prices and regional chaos that comes with it. Congress needs to stop listening to warmongering elites and start listening to the American people who are sick and tired of being dragged into forever wars.”
