Demand Progress Supports Khanna/Massie Iran Resolution

Americans Want Lower Grocery Bills, Not Another Regime Change War in the Middle East

Washington, D.C. — On Wednesday, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) announced that he and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) will attempt to force a vote next week on a war powers resolution for Iran. The U.S. military continues to send warships and fighter jets to Iran and one adviser to President Donald Trump has said “I think there is 90% chance we see kinetic action in the next few weeks.” Demand Progress has opposed unauthorized, unilateral military action under presidents from both parties.

The following is a statement from Demand Progress Senior Policy Advisor Cavan Kharrazian:

“We are in a crisis of leadership. The president is actively gearing up for a disastrous, protracted war in which U.S. servicemembers are likely to die, without even bothering to justify it to the American people. Foreign governments and warmongering elites are cheering him on. Congressional leaders in both parties are shamefully silent. Thankfully, Reps. Khanna and Massie are stepping in to give the people a voice. Americans want lower grocery bills, not another regime change war in the Middle East. All members of Congress must support Reps. Khanna and Massie’s war powers resolution to prevent war in Iran. This may go down as one of the most consequential votes on war and peace in recent history, and Americans will be watching now to see who is with them and who is not.”
