Washington, DC — Today, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, announced that he is forcing a Senate vote on fully releasing the government’s files related to Jeffrey Epstein. The vote follows the release of a lewd birthday card to Epstein bearing Donald Trump’s signature — a card that Trump’s attorneys previously said was “fake and nonexistent.” Demand Progress has led a campaign driving Americans to ask their representatives to support Reps. Thomas Massie and Ro Khanna’s carefully crafted House bill to release the files while protecting Epstein’s victims. So far Americans have sent nearly 250,000 messages and made more than 2,600 calls asking Congress to release the files.
The following is a statement from Demand Progress Senior Policy Advisor Cavan Kharrazian:
“A quarter million Americans have asked their members of Congress to release the Epstein files. Senators should head that groundswell of support and immediately vote to release them.
Epstein’s birthday book triggers serious alarm bells and that’s just the tiniest drop in the bucket compared to all the information the government is holding on this case. The American people can see right through the various lies and deflections meant to protect the President and bury the issue. Enough smoke and mirrors: the American people deserve clarity and the only way to get it is by releasing the files and stopping the government’s stonewalling.”
