Demand Progress Condemns Senators Who Voted to Continue Trump’s War

Washington, D.C. — On Wednesday, the U.S. Senate voted to block a bipartisan war powers resolution that would have stopped President Donald Trump’s unauthorized war in Iran. Multiple polls show that Americans overwhelmingly disapprove of the war. Meanwhile, Politico reports that Senate Democratic leaders have refused to reject the idea of supporting a supplemental funding bill to pay for the war. Demand Progress is leading a campaign urging Americans to ask their representatives to support the war powers resolutions.

The following is a statement from Demand Progress Senior Policy Advisor Cavan Kharrazian:

“The American people will remember who voted to continue an illegal, unnecessary war. Every senator who voted against the war powers resolution also voted against the wishes of the American people and against the safety of the servicemembers they are sworn to protect. The stakes are clear and there is no more time for political games. We cannot accept anything except full opposition to Trump’s war. This means no votes to authorize it for any period of time and no votes for spending a single penny on it.”
