The House Committee on Foreign Affairs today favorably reported H.J. Res. 37, which would end US involvement in the Saudi Arabia-Yemen conflict. The measure passed the Senate last year and then was narrowly defeated in the Republican-controlled House.
“Today’s vote in the House Committee on Foreign Affairs is an important step toward ending US support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen. The war has led to the broadest humanitarian crisis in the world today, with tens of thousands killed or injured, millions facing starvation, and a cholera outbreak devastating the country,” said Tihi Hayslett, campaigner for Demand Progress. “US involvement in this humanitarian disaster must end. There is no excuse for any lawmakers, particularly Democrats, to support reckless warmaking under this president. We will continue to organize to pressure members of Congress to pass this resolution, both in the House and Senate, in order to help bring an end to the current crisis in Yemen, and to provide a long overdue check on the bellicosity of US foreign policy.”
