Jeanine Pirro is a Made-for-TV Ed Martin

Trump’s Pick to be DC’s Top Prosecutor Poses Same Threat to Rule of Law as the Last One

Washington, D.C. — On Thursday, President Donald Trump named Fox News personality Jeanine Pirro to be the U.S. attorney for D.C. Earlier on Thursday, Trump pulled his previous nominee for the position, Ed Martin, after bipartisan criticism of his behavior and disrespect for the rule of law. Demand Progress and Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF) filed a comprehensive complaint against Martin with the D.C. bar that lays out a long history of his actions and decisions that clash with the ethics rules governing attorneys. The two groups have repeatedly sounded the alarm about Martin’s misbehavior and the threat he would pose to the rule of law as the permanent U.S. attorney for D.C.

The following is a statement from Emily Peterson-Cassin, director of corporate power at Demand Progress:

“Jeanine Pirro is the made-for-TV version of Ed Martin. Like Ed Martin, she lacks the experience and temperament for the job. Like Ed Martin, her primary qualification is her unfailing sycophancy. Like Ed Martin, there is a shockingly long, documented history of Pirro cozying up to bigots and spouting false, racist propaganda. The U.S. attorney for D.C. is one of the most important legal positions in government. President Trump needs to pick someone for this job who understands and respects the rule of law, not the loudest, most shameless crony that he knows from TV.”
