WASHINGTON, D.C. —  Since Friday afternoon, grassroots members of some of our nation’s leading progressive groups have made more than 44,000 calls to the U.S. Senate opposing the confirmation of Jeff Sessions as Attorney General through the Stop Sessions call tool on BlockTrumpsCabinet.com.

On Tuesday alone, the first day of confirmation hearings for Sessions, members made more than 24,000 calls to senators using this tool. The page is part of BlockTrumpsCabinet.com, a project of leading progressive organizations including Demand Progress, the Working Families Party, Free Press, CPD Action, Daily Kos, Courage Campaign, The Nation, and People for the American Way. Callers urged their senators to use their confirmation powers to block Donald Trump’s nomination of Jeff Sessions.

This is part of a massive wave of opposition to Sessions due to his long track record of racism and open hostility to civil and women’s rights, including a history of calling a black subordinate “boy,” and “joking” about supporting the Ku Klux Klan. His anti-woman record speaks for itself: He said “I don’t characterize” grabbing women by the genitals “as sexual assault,”  and voted against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act.

BlockTrumpsCabinet.com and Stop Sessions were created by a coalition over 25 leading progressive organizations. Coalition organizations range from progressive stalwarts like Demand Progress, Daily Kos, the Working Families Party, and Democracy for America to prominent organizations like CWA (Communications Workers of America) and League of Conservation Voters to groups representing communities threatened by the hateful ideology of many Trump’s picks, like UltraViolet, MPower, and Presente Action.
